Even before the start, participants enjoyed the new, freshly concreted parts of the track, installed by professionals from “Betono takas”, “Lengridas” and “Betono centras”. Last year, the temporary road plates used in these track sections were uneven, causing extreme strain on the car suspensions. This year, these sections are perfectly smooth, meaning participants will tire less and be able to better concentrate on driving.

The “Eldrive” 24H electric car race is the only event of this format in the Baltic countries, bringing together both professionals and electric car enthusiasts. It will be held for the third time at the Panevėžys autodrome, with the track very similar to last year’s – the length remains 1.4 km. The idea of this discussion is to look at the electric car no longer as a technology that needs to be proven, but as a car that is already ready to become part of everyday life. EV must stop being the “future” and become simply a car that raises no questions: how far it goes, whether it drives in winter, if the battery is safe, where to charge it, etc.
Here lies the main paradox of the discussion: technology moves forward faster than our attitude towards it. Infrastructure is expanding, cars are becoming more efficient, their selection is increasing, but old habits and myths still strongly influence people’s decisions, and EV remains only the choice of enthusiasts. Perhaps the electric mobility revolution will not happen when everyone switches to EV, but when we stop thinking about the electric car as an electric car, change habits, and choose greener energy and transport?
