The Cabinet of Ministers allocated more funds for Lithuanian language lessons in national minority schools

Additional two weekly lessons will be funded for students in grades 1–4 studying in the language of a national minority. This aims to ensure that Lithuanian language and literature receive no less time than the native language instruction.

The decision was made in implementation of the ruling announced in January by the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania (LVAT). The court found that a smaller number of Lithuanian language and literature lessons compared to native language lessons contradicts the Education Act and the constitutional principle of the rule of law.
