This suspect is a German citizen who was 25 years old at the time of the attack but died in 2020. The suspect was identified by officials last year when the investigation was reopened.

This happened after a witness provided new evidence, Munich police and prosecutors said.
“New investigations conducted after reopening the case strongly suggest that the suspect was the perpetrator of the crime,” their joint statement said.
However, officials added that a final legal clarification is not possible because under German law, charges cannot be brought against a deceased person.
The suspect belonged to the “right-wing environment,” and witnesses described him as an anti-Semite with a “Hitler fixation,” police and prosecutors reported.
Although they did not disclose the suspect’s name, the magazine “Der Spiegel” named him as Bernd V.
The attack on February 13, 1970, was one of the most horrific crimes against the Jewish community in post-war Germany.
The fire was started by pouring gasoline in the stairwell of a wooden center that served as a community nursing home and guest house; the fire quickly spread and cut off the only exit from the premises.
Seven members of the Jewish community died, and 15 other people were injured, four of them seriously.
