With a career spanning more than five decades, Sylvain Cambreling has dedicated himself to symphonic music and opera, earning an outstanding reputation as a masterful interpreter of contemporary music and a conductor with a broad artistic vision. The conductor himself describes his artistic range as “from Monteverdi to tomorrow.”
S. Cambreling has conducted on the most important opera stages in the world – New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Milan’s La Scala, Vienna State Opera, English National Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Paris National Opera, and Brussels’ La Monnaie, and has also been the artistic director and chief music director of the Frankfurt Opera. He is also regularly invited to conduct the world’s most famous orchestras, including the Vienna, Berlin, Munich, and Oslo Philharmonic Orchestras, the Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, and Montreal Symphony Orchestra.
S. Cambreling is also always welcomed at the most prestigious festivals: Lucerne, Salzburg, Vienna festivals, Ruhr Triennale, and Glyndebourne Opera Festival, where he has consistently expanded his repertoire, conducting both classical and 20th–21st century masterpieces. His interpretations are praised for clarity, precision, and deep emotional impact, while his original concert programs feature a cleverly combined variety from Baroque to contemporary music. Since 2018, S. Cambreling has been the chief conductor and artistic director of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra.
One of today’s most prominent violinists, Norwegian Eldbjørg Hemsing, will appear as a soloist in this concert. Her sensitive musicality, exceptional lyricism, and breathtaking virtuosity have earned international recognition from critics and audiences alike. Klassik-Talente called her “the new queen of the violin,” and Broadway World wrote about her performances: “When Hemsing plays, it feels like time stands still.”
The violinist performs in the world’s most prestigious halls – New York’s Lincoln Center, London’s Wigmore Hall, Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Beijing National Centre for the Performing Arts, and has also played at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo. She actively collaborates with the most renowned contemporary composers, including Tan Dun, Anders Hillborg, Alexandre Desplat, and other notable creators. Hemsing’s creative work is not limited to concert halls – her playing can also be heard in films and series. Hemsing’s violin features in the soundtrack of the Netflix film “Frankenstein,” and she also performed in one of the most popular recent series, “Bridgerton.”

Holding an exclusive recording contract with Sony Classical, Eldbjørg Hemsing combines classical repertoire masterpieces and contemporary works in her albums, paying considerable attention to promoting Nordic music worldwide. Her discography includes the albums “Grieg Violin Sonatas,” “Arctic,” “Colors of Bach,” and her latest recording – “Hillborg: Violin Concerto No. 2 / Liquid Marble,” recorded together with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.
Playing the legendary 1707 “Rivaz Baron Gutmann Stradivarius” violin, Hemsing’s performances and recordings stand out for artistic vision, depth, and originality. The magazine The Strad described her playing as “a stunning combination of purity and a vigorous temperament reminiscent of Heifetz,” while Variety wrote about the violinist: “She produces a pure sound. She does not play romantically – she plays wonderfully.” Alongside an intense concert career, Eldbjørg Hemsing actively participates in cultural diplomacy initiatives and supports young musicians, representing Norwegian culture on the international stage.
