The news agency “Yonhap,” citing an unnamed source, reported that warning shots were fired last week.

“Recently, on the Eastern front, North Korean forces crossed the military demarcation line, so our military, following operational procedures, fired warning shots,” said the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
“Our military is closely monitoring the movements of North Korean forces, maintaining strong military readiness,” the statement added.
As reported by the “Yonhap” agency, this incident was the first recorded violation of the North Korean military demarcation line this year. It is noted that North Korean soldiers likely patrolled this area when the violation occurred.

The North Korean embassy in Singapore did not respond to a request for comment.
According to the “Yonhap” agency, last year North Korean soldiers violated this line 17 times.
Both Koreas are technically still in a state of war, as the 1950–1953 war ended with an armistice, not a peace treaty.
