In order for schools to start independently providing meals for students, it was necessary to purchase the required equipment, furniture, renovate the premises, and more. 460 thousand euros were allocated for this from the Kretinga district municipality budget.

The decision to switch to independent catering was made after this approach proved successful at Darbėnai Gymnasium in the Kretinga district. Here, due to improved food quality and reduced meal prices, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of students eating in the canteen.
The 15min portal wrote that the decision in Darbėnai proved to be very successful.
Next year, Kretinga district’s Vydmantai Gymnasium, Kartenos school-multifunctional center, and Jokūbavas Aleksandras Stulginskis school-multifunctional center should start independently providing meals for students. Currently, it is being determined what equipment and how much investment will be needed for this.
