Four more people were also injured in the Russian strike in the Sumy region on Friday morning, including the father and grandmother of the boy who died, who were hospitalized with severe burns, said the head of the regional military administration, Oleh Hryhorov.
The strike was carried out the day after the United Nations (UN) announced that July was the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilian lives since the first weeks of Moscow’s large-scale invasion more than four years ago.
The UN monitoring mission in Kyiv reported that at least 437 civilians were killed last month, and another 2,610 were injured, as Russia intensified bombing of Ukrainian cities and towns.
