On vacation by the sea, it’s hard to resist taking at least one photo. Views of sand, the beach, and the blue sea have become as inseparable a part of many vacations as a towel or sunscreen.
A new beach ranking revealed which famous beaches around the world are the most actively photographed and posted on Instagram. This time, not the total number of posts was evaluated, but how many Instagram posts there are per meter of beach.
The analysis was conducted by the New Zealand company Hot Spring Spas NZ, which examined Instagram hashtags of more than 160 well-known beaches in 36 countries worldwide. The final ranking included 98 beaches – to qualify, a beach needed to have at least 50,000 posts associated with it.
From Hawaii to Bali
The tenth place was taken by the famous Waikiki beach in Hawaii – it has 418 Instagram posts per meter.
Ninth place went to Sayulita in Mexico – 425 posts per meter, and eighth place was taken by Cala Comte in Ibiza, with 430 posts per meter.
Seventh place – Hikkaduwa beach in Sri Lanka with 432 posts per meter.
Even more impressive numbers were recorded in South Africa and Indonesia. Camps Bay beach in Cape Town gathered 467 posts per meter and took sixth place.

Fifth was Padang Padang beach in Bali – it has 483 posts per meter.
Fourth place again went to Australia. The Surfers Paradise beach in the Gold Coast resort boasts 552 Instagram posts per meter.
Australia and California Duel
Third place was taken by Sydney’s Coogee beach. The beach is only 477 meters long but, according to the study, was mentioned in 277,878 Instagram posts. This means 583 posts per meter.
However, it was far outpaced by the famous Venice Beach in California. Here, there are as many as 1,049 Instagram posts per meter of beach – a result that secured second place.
Still, no competitor matched the Bondi beach in Australia.
The 874-meter-long Sydney beach is associated with as many as 2,038,075 Instagram posts. This means that Bondi beach has 2,332 posts per meter – more than twice as many as second-place Venice Beach.
