The Polish tennis player defeated Russian Anna Kalinskaya (WTA-24) with a score of 7:6(3), 6:3 and recorded a historic achievement – she became only the second player starting from the qualifiers in the “Open Era” to make it to the semifinals in Paris.
So far, only six tennis players have managed to reach the semifinals of Grand Slam tournaments after successfully passing the qualifying rounds. Among them is British tennis star Emma Raducanu, who remains the only one to have won the championship title this way.
Starting from just the 114th position in the WTA rankings, the 24-year-old Pole also became the second lowest-ranked tennis player to reach the Roland Garros semifinals. The record belongs to Frenchwoman Lois Boisson (WTA-361), who shone last year.

Besides M. Chwalinska, only three other compatriots have reached a Grand Slam semifinal in the “Open Era” – Agnieszka Radwanska, Magda Linette, and Iga Swiatek.
