Why do some women “protect” men and, fearing that the relationship might end, resort to appeasement, want to please, and at the same time feel jealous? Why do sometimes single friends hint to their girlfriends to better protect their man because he might be taken away? We discussed this with psychologist Sonata Vizgaudienė, who reveals that everything is much deeper than we might think.
“Historically, having a husband 40-50 years ago was a great value. Now, in recent decades, this situation is changing – women are growing stronger as individuals, becoming more independent, having more freedoms, and a sense of security is emerging. Women today can live alone and feel happy, and the value of having a husband is decreasing. Still, we cannot completely dismiss it. Having a husband is perceived by some women as a guarantee of emotional, social, and financial security. Although this is an outdated view, it is still possible nowadays, more typical for women with lower education and income, and those who do not work,” explains the psychologist.

She continues that protecting a man from others, jumping around him, may be related to certain personal issues and experiences of women, as well as self-esteem. For example, if a woman has sufficient self-esteem, her man, regardless of life circumstances, will be a more equal partner, she will want equality in the relationship, so there will be no fear of other women.
