Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs of Poland Dariusz Standerski announced that he signed an agreement allowing Poland to participate in the joint public procurement process organized by the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (“EuroHPC”), reports the country’s public broadcaster TVP.

“A few days ago, on behalf of the Republic of Poland, I signed a joint procurement agreement, which means that Poland has officially joined the AI gigafactories initiative,” the minister told the Polish daily “Rzeczpospolita.”
Poland aims to establish a medium-sized factory in the country that could eventually serve at least 75,000 AI accelerators.
It is expected that seven gigafactories will be selected through the first EU public procurement competition – four medium-scale and three large-scale. Contracts are expected to be signed early next year, and the facilities should start operating in 2028.
Warsaw has allocated more than 400 million zlotys (93 million euros) for this project, and D. Standerski said the government is negotiating with private sector partners.
“Private company consortia will be responsible for the operation of AI gigafactories. (…) We have business interests, and there is also a guarantee that data processing capacities will be purchased, as government funds will be used precisely for this,” he said. “From the very first day of the gigafactory’s operation, part of its data processing capacity will already be sold.”
Poland and the EU will purchase 17% of the factory’s capacity each year for five years, and the remaining two-thirds will be sold on a commercial basis by a private consortium.
Poland is preparing an agreement with the Czech government and has received support from Lithuania, the minister said, adding that negotiations are ongoing with other EU partners.
