The footage shows the bear biting and clawing at another door handle, then hesitating.

The hotel staff stayed at the accommodation all night to ensure the safety of the guests. According to them, they called the emergency number 112 several times, but their efforts were in vain.

“We stayed on duty until morning and kept calling the emergency services. At some point, we had to control the situation ourselves – help never arrived, even though there was a specialized team in the city,” complained the hotel staff.

The employees noted that encounters with bears in this area have become a dangerous daily occurrence. The situation has caused fear among the local residents. According to them, the appearance of bears in settlements has become a common phenomenon and poses a real threat to their safety.

“It already causes fear”

Cristian Remus Pappas, an expert from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Romania, told “Stirile ProTV” that such behavior is related to bears getting used to easily accessible food sources near humans.

“Bears are intelligent animals, so once they get used to food that can be easily obtained near people, they will continue to return whenever they have the chance and sense that a food source attracts them. Unfortunately, this is not only related to this particular bear but also to several bears that increasingly enter communities,” said Ch.R. Pappas.

According to specialists, bears are becoming bolder due to poor problem management, especially regarding garbage containers that are not properly secured against wild animals.

Encounters with bears in the Romanian mountains are not uncommon, especially because the animals have become accustomed to tourists feeding them, despite constant government warnings to avoid any contact with wild animals and the risk of being fined for it.

Sometimes tourists have been injured or even killed by bears when they stopped to photograph or feed them.

“It already causes fear. Leaving doors open is enough – and a bear can get into the house. We don’t understand how to deal with this,” said people living around the ski resort.

Tourists who came to the resort admitted to one of its residents that they no longer risk coming here with children because of the fear of bears.

“We really don’t know what to do. The highest danger level has already been declared,” say the local residents.

The incident in Poiana Brașov became another episode in a series of similar cases recorded in the Romanian Carpathian Mountains.

Earlier last week, a resident of the city of Călimănești had to defend himself with a shovel from a bear that appeared near his home.

According to Romanian media, over the past 9 years, since hunting restrictions were introduced in the country, hundreds of bear attacks on people have been recorded – 264 people were injured, 20 died.
