Currently, a semifinal series is taking place in Greece. On May 28, both Panathinaikos and Olympiakos secured victories.

However, after these games, the Greens issued a very long statement addressed to their eternal rivals’ coach Georgios Bartzokas. One of the reasons was the Olympiakos strategist’s claims that big clubs accept defeats. This can be seen as an allegory to Panathinaikos’ arrogance.
We present the unedited text:
To Mr. Georgios Bartzokas,
Besides admitting yourself that you are “out of your depth,” stop rewriting history. Even after winning the EuroLeague – which all of Europe openly talks about now – you still cannot stop thinking about Panathinaikos. Unfortunately, your thoughts find no peace, so when asked about the remarks of the respected Sergio Scariolo, you again, unsolicited and without any reason, started talking about the biggest club in Europe.
We know that Panathinaikos has become a mania for you, but stop worrying about the status of seven-time legitimate European champions and greatness that you cannot match. We will just remind you of some facts and respond to your unfounded statements from yesterday, when you declared:
“We have never used methods like talking about how many free throws the opponents made. When we lose, we shake hands and leave.”
Really?
Have you forgotten that in 2012 one of Olympiakos’ owners appeared at the SEF arena wearing a shirt counting free throws from previous games?
Have you forgotten that you yourself, who supposedly “shake hands and leave,” chased referees in the corridors of the SEF arena after the fourth final game in 2014 and shouted at them:
“Run, run!”
Have you forgotten that in 2019 your team left the court during the halftime break of the Greek Cup semifinal?
Since your memory seems weak, we will briefly remind you of some of your public comments about referees, whom you supposedly “never care about.”

After the December 23, 2013 game Panathinaikos – Olympiakos (67:59) you said:
“We were fighting under the basket, but fouls were not called. In the end, we only took four free throws.”
After the June 9, 2013 game Panathinaikos – Olympiakos (63:52) you stated:
“I would like to ask a few questions that do not need answers. Why did the referees take five minutes during halftime? We know what happened. Why did the refereeing criteria change after that?”

After the June 1, 2014 game Olympiakos – Panathinaikos (65:67) you said:
“We saw again what is going on. Two of the three referees – Karakatsounis and Panagiotou – also officiated the game that Panathinaikos won at the SEF arena.”
After the June 10, 2024 game Panathinaikos – Olympiakos (83:76) you stated:
“In such games, Panathinaikos took 10 more free throws. I will not be a typical clown like some others and complain about refereeing.”
After the January 20, 2025 game Panathinaikos – Olympiakos (78:72) you said:
“I don’t know how many more free throws Panathinaikos took, but in my opinion, the criteria were different.”
Among all your ramblings, you even dared to mention the first European champion title won by a Greek club – of course, it was Panathinaikos in 1996 in Paris.

You spoke about those final games, although there were many mistakes by referees, secretariat, and timekeepers that were not in Panathinaikos’ favor but rather favorable to Barcelona.
About those games, then FIBA Secretary General Borislav Stankovic said:
“If anyone should be apologized to, it would be Panathinaikos for everything that happened and was beneficial not to them but to Barcelona.”
G. Bartzokas, you are too insignificant to talk about Panathinaikos and its history.
And finally – be silent. You no longer need to justify yourself. All of Europe already knows everything.
Your whole life is a lie…
