Nominations can be submitted until September 25 at 4 p.m., and any member of the association can nominate a candidate to succeed the resigned Mindaugas Balčiūnas.
During the press conference, attended by the new EC chairman Remigijus Milašius, general secretary Dominykas Domarkas, and “FIBA Europe” board member Darius Gudelis, the background of Rimantas Grigas’s investigation, the search for a new national team coach, and the difficulties regarding the funding of the women’s European Championship were discussed.
Among other topics – changes in the list of vice presidents. The name of Tomas Pačėsas disappeared from the association’s website, who this week, together with Rimas Kurtinaitis, also left the national team coaching staff.

“I would like to clarify the date, but I don’t have my phone with me. I received Tomas Pačėsas’s resignation request. He resigned and asked to be removed from the website,” Dominykas Domarkas told 15min. “Vice presidents are members of the strategic council appointed by the president. Obviously, when there is no president, the functions of the vice presidents are limited. We are waiting for a president who will choose his team.”
Domarkas spoke enigmatically about the future of men’s basketball program director and national team leader Linas Kleiza.
“Regarding Linas Kleiza’s situation, you should ask Linas himself,” Domarkas told 15min. “The coaching staff resigned, and Linas has spoken about it more than once. I think the statement about it should come from Linas. Everyone is waiting for a new president, a new coach, and the president will talk with the team leader. Whether such a position is needed or not.”
