Many parents accompany their schoolchildren in the mornings because they themselves travel to work by public transport. Others drive their children by car but cannot always pick them up after classes. Still, some primary school students are already learning to navigate their first routes on their own. Although every family’s daily life is different, they are all united by the desire for their child’s journeys to be as simple and comfortable as possible.

The primary school student ticket is a special annual public transport ticket for students in grades 1–4, allowing unlimited travel on the capital’s public transport throughout the year for just 10 euros.
“Our goal is to create conditions for every primary school student to move freely around the city and offer families a truly practical and convenient solution. By purchasing the ticket once, worries about buying tickets throughout the year are avoided. This gives parents peace of mind and allows young travelers to gradually learn independence,” says Jurgita Gaidienė, Head of the JUDU Value Creation Department for clients.
Stop by stop – into an ever bigger world
As the child grows, there are more activities and places to reach. Public transport can become one of the first spaces where a primary school student learns to move beyond home – initially with parents, and later, after becoming familiar with the route and travel rules, independently.
While traveling, primary school students learn to follow the route, recognize stops, plan time, observe the surroundings, protect their belongings, and be attentive to other passengers. These are simple everyday skills that help the child better orient themselves in the environment, learn responsibility, and trust their abilities.
“It is important to us that children get to know public transport not only as a way to get from one place to another but also as a natural part of city life. The earlier a child learns to navigate the city independently and use public transport, the more confidently they feel in the city. At the same time, a habit of sustainable mobility is encouraged from an early age,” says J. Gaidienė.
Purchase with just a few clicks
The primary school student ticket can be purchased in the new JUDU app, on the judu.lt self-service website, at physical points, and at JUDU customer service centers.

It is convenient that parents can buy the primary school student ticket through their JUDU account and transfer the inactive ticket(s) to the child – just enter the child’s account email address. So, there is no need to buy the ticket through the child’s phone or worry about adding a payment card to their device. The transferred ticket works in the child’s account like a regular public transport ticket: the validity period is visible in the app, and the ticket can be conveniently shown on the phone during inspections. If the child does not yet have a phone, the primary school student ticket can also be purchased on a physical JUDU / Vilnietis card.
The ticket becomes valid from the moment it is activated in the app or on the public transport vehicle and is valid for 12 months. For example, if the ticket was purchased on September 2 and activated the same day, it will be valid for 12 months – until 11:59 PM on September 1 of the following year.
If the long-term ticket is purchased on a JUDU physical card, it is activated the first time the passenger boards public transport, and activation can be done in advance in the app. The validity period of the activated ticket can be checked anytime in the app or by touching the JUDU physical card to a validator.
Along with the primary school student ticket, passengers must present a student ID issued by the educational institution during inspections.
Various tickets are valid on Vilnius public transport – short-term, daily, long-term, and special. An 80% discount applies to single and term tickets for students aged 8–18 (or while studying in general education school, but not longer than until 23 years old).
