The R rating (Restricted) is an age restriction given by the Motion Picture Association (MPA) to films that contain scenes of violence, strong language, drug use, or sexual content. This means that viewers under 17 years old can only watch the film if accompanied by parents or guardians.
The film “Odyssey” received an R rating “for violence and some language,” according to the Motion Picture Association (MPA).
Similar restrictions were applied to the film in other countries: in the United Kingdom, it was deemed suitable only for viewers aged 15 and older due to “violent scenes,” and in Australia, it was restricted for “mature themes, violence, and strong language.”
In Lithuania, this film has an age restriction of N-13. This means that children aged 7-12 must be accompanied by an adult, and children under 7 are not admitted to the film.

Interest in Nolan’s film is high in the United Kingdom and Ireland – this work has already earned 92.7 million USD, which is the second highest after the US market, in France – 69.3 million USD, Italy – 55.6 million USD. China brought the film 36.3 million USD.
“Odyssey” has already become Nolan’s most profitable film – on August 10, 2026, it surpassed the earnings of the 2012 film “The Dark Knight Rises,” which earned just over 1 billion dollars.
Preparing for filming, Nolan studied several translations of the “Odyssey,” including those by Emily Wilson, E.V. Rieu, and Robert Fagles. The first line of the work from E. Wilson’s translation, “Sing to me of the man, Muse, the man of twists and turns…” became the director’s leitmotif in creating the image of Odysseus.
However, the translator herself criticized the “Odyssey” screenplay. According to her, the film lacks psychological and emotional depth. In her text published in the “London Review of Books,” the translator stated that she “would be ashamed to write any part of this screenplay.”
