“I want to calm the public a little, as the presentation of information in the form it was done unnecessarily caused excessive anxiety. The threat level remains similar,” Rimantas Sinkevičius told BNS on Friday after a closed committee meeting at the Second Operational Services Department (AOTD).

“The process taking place in our unfriendly states is ongoing, but the threat level is the same as stated on June 5, when all those concerned received a joint note prepared by the State Security and AOTD about possible threats; those threats have not significantly increased, but the process continues,” he said.
According to the committee chairman, possible incidents of various kinds were already warned about at that time.
“Intelligence talks about all possible cases and identifies some objects that are important infrastructure facilities, important from the national security perspective,” R. Sinkevičius said.
According to him, not only Lithuania but also other neighboring countries are indicated as possible targets.
The NSGK chairman stated that Lithuania is making progress in preventing such threats, but it is impossible to be fully prepared for them.

“There is indeed a lot of work – both in acquiring defense measures and organizing work related to prevention and protecting against possible threats, as well as coordinating inter-institutional activities where certain procedures and responsibilities must be coordinated and established,” he said.
BNS wrote that leaders of NATO’s eastern flank countries have recently publicly warned of having intelligence information about Russia preparing kinetic means to stage provocations in their countries.
President Gitanas Nausėda told BNS in an interview that critical transport and energy infrastructure in Lithuania could become targets, and they could be targeted both by conventional means and by preparing sabotage acts.
Last week, information was also reported about Lithuanian military intelligence data indicating that Russia is considering attacks on critical infrastructure in the Baltic region using Ukrainian drones. No further information was provided about specific possible targets or attack times.
Since June 18, the military has been supporting the Public Security Service in guarding the liquefied natural gas terminal in Klaipėda, the “LitPol Link” electricity interconnection substation with Poland in Alytus, the transformer station in Alytus district, and the Kruonis pumped-storage hydroelectric plant.
