M. Drapatas is considered one of Ukraine’s youngest generals. Since Russia’s aggression began in 2014, he participated in battles in Donbas, commanded units in key front sectors, and played a crucial role in 2022 when the full-scale invasion began, taking over command of operations.

Over more than four years, M. Drapatas directed complex operations in southern and eastern Ukraine. He was later appointed Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and in 2024, he became Commander of the Ground Forces.
Later, a new Joint Forces Grouping was formed within the Ukrainian defense forces, and M. Drapatas was appointed to lead it.
