The aging process begins in our DNA

As a person ages, many biological changes occur in the body: telomeres – the protective ‘caps’ of DNA strands – shorten, cells’ ability to remove waste deteriorates, and tissue regeneration weakens.

However, scientists have found that even if all these problems were solved, one inevitable factor of aging would remain – somatic mutations.

These are small DNA errors that occur every time a cell divides. The body successfully detects and corrects most of them, but not all.
