„It is an honor to return to Kyiv – the city of truth, courage, and hope. The spirit of freedom I feel here is incomparable. The example of sacrifice you show every day is especially dear to the people of Lithuania. We know well the price of freedom. We know how painful it is to lose it and how much effort it takes to regain it,“ said the head of state in Ukrainian.

The President recalled visiting Kyiv in February 2022 together with then Polish leader Andrzej Duda, one day before the start of Russia’s large-scale military aggression. At that time, the boundless determination, will to fight, and refusal to give up by Ukraine left an invincible impression.
„In those days, all of Lithuania united to help Ukraine and its people. The streets of our cities were flooded with Ukrainian flags. This is a sight I have not seen anywhere else. The flags raised 42 months ago are still flying today,“ said the President.
The head of state emphasized that only Ukraine’s victory can bring peace and calm to all of Europe. Therefore, Lithuania will continue to support Ukraine, will not recognize the occupation of its territories, and will increase pressure on Russia and its accomplices. Our country will also help Ukraine pursue membership in the EU and NATO, and after the war ends, will assist in rebuilding destroyed schools, hospitals, and power plants.

President G. Nausėda invited Ukrainians to be proud of their country, as well as of each other’s strength, perseverance, and determination.
„I believe that very soon we will be able to celebrate victory over darkness together. A victory that will be not only Ukraine’s but all of free Europe’s,“ said the head of state, wishing all Ukrainians a beautiful upcoming Independence Day.
The solemn celebration of Ukrainian Flag Day was also attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other leaders from the Nordic and Baltic countries.
