„The question itself (legalizing the president’s vacation – BNS) probably cannot be resolved, because the president is a person who cannot be substituted by anyone. Therefore, if there is a need to sign a law or make any decision, I cannot entrust anyone to substitute me,“ the head of state said to LRT television on Monday.

He said he chose probably the only possible week per year when no physical meetings or other matters requiring his direct participation were planned.
„In this way, I solved this, I would say, legal puzzle. On the one hand, the Constitution allows me the right to a personal life and some rest, on the other hand, the Constitution requires me to perform my duties continuously for ten years. Probably this is the only way to solve it,“ said G. Nausėda.
„You choose a place where, in case of an emergency, you could return as quickly as possible, you choose a time that perhaps poses the least risk. I am glad that I managed to use this time not for passive, but for active rest,“ said the head of state.

President G. Nausėda visited Madeira from August 3 to 10. According to the Presidential Office’s statement, the head of state planned to work remotely and follow the most important events in the country.
The President’s law does not provide for vacations for the head of state, and the Seimas statute does not legalize vacations for parliamentarians. Meanwhile, the Government law provides that members of the Cabinet of Ministers are entitled to a minimum of 20 working days of annual leave.
