Minister: We will evaluate the changing US rhetoric towards Kyiv based on progress in ending the war

“(The changed rhetoric – BNS) results could be assessed based on how much progress is made through diplomatic means to end the war. We have seen that tougher tools were used to approach this by imposing sanctions on Russia, and now we see that the sanctions track continues and will continue to be applied, while a somewhat softer (US – BNS) position, closer to Ukraine, is being tested,” K. Budrys said in an interview published on Wednesday in “Verslo žinios.”

According to him, D. Trump’s policy towards Ukraine should be seen “on a timeline” from the very beginning of his administration.

“How much time and effort they put into ending the war. In fact, if you add up the total number of working hours, it would be a huge bill for how much America has invested. (…) Support for Ukraine continues, conditions are being created in Europe to purchase weapons, systems, ammunition from the US as much as the US defense industry capacities allow,” he said.

“We will be able to assess in the fall, but again, it does not depend only on President D. Trump and the US, we have already seen that (Vladimir – BNS) Putin is not only capable of doing this more than once, but also willing to destroy any efforts (to end the war – BNS),” said the head of Lithuanian diplomacy.

BNS reported that just last week Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with D. Trump to secure Washington’s licenses for the production of “Patriot” systems on Ukrainian territory.
