„I think the strategies here should be common and will be common, since both the Ministry of the Interior ensures our security, and the Ministry of National Defence ensures our security, so here we will definitely strengthen cooperation and I have already preliminarily spoken about this personally with the minister,“ R. Kaunas said to journalists after a meeting with President Gitanas Nausėda on Wednesday.
In an interview with the public broadcaster LRT news portal, M. Katelynas said that it is natural that when a lot of attention and funds are allocated to national defense, experienced officers become needed everywhere.
„It is natural that a person wants to live better. He sees that according to his abilities he fits perfectly there, and looks for ways to earn more,“ he said.
Among other things, R. Kaunas said he fully supports M. Katelynas’s opinion that border guards and officers should have the opportunity to use all available means more freely, protecting both themselves and Lithuania.

As reported by BNS, the Vilnius District Court is currently examining the case of border guard Karolis Ilgevičius, accused of murder and abuse of power. He is on trial for shooting a driver who disobeyed officers by shooting at the tire of a fleeing smuggler’s car.
