As reported by the Government, the main focus was on Lithuania’s presidency priorities, primarily security, strengthening economic competitiveness, and support for Ukraine.

“In this challenging period, a strong, united, and crisis-resilient Europe, which does not lose its drive to grow and increase its global competitiveness, must be a common goal for all of us, Europeans,” the Prime Minister is quoted in the statement.
“This is what we will strive for during Lithuania’s presidency of the Council of the EU. At the same time, an ambitious multiannual financial framework is necessary to strengthen European defense capabilities and military mobility, while preserving social cohesion and the well-being of the population,” he said.
The head of government noted that the security challenges faced by Lithuania and other Eastern flank countries must be addressed when considering the new EU multiannual financial framework.
Discussing further support for Ukraine, M. Sinkevičius emphasized that as winter approaches, it is crucial to provide timely assistance to help the country withstand renewed pressure on energy infrastructure and protect civilians.

Regarding EU enlargement, the Prime Minister stressed that Ukraine’s path to the EU should be viewed not only in the context of enlargement policy but also as a strategic investment in long-term European security.
A. Costa wished success for Lithuania’s upcoming presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of next year and noted the importance of close cooperation.
According to the Government, both sides agreed to continue coordinating actions on key EU agenda issues.
Lithuania will hold the presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2027.
