According to the National Crisis Management Center, the drone, possibly affected by Russian electronic warfare measures, most likely entered Latvia from Belarus.
NATO fighters shot down the drone near Lake Boževa, located about five kilometers from the center of Rugaji village in Balvi municipality in northeastern Latvia.
The Prime Minister previously said that the drone did not enter Lithuanian airspace. According to him, the remains of the drone have not yet been found.

Earlier this year, several drones crashed and exploded in Latvia. It is assumed that Ukrainian aircraft affected by Russia had also flown into Lithuanian territory.
Last week, R. Kaunas said that Russia is considering attacks on critical infrastructure in the Baltic region using Ukrainian drones.
According to the Prime Minister, this version of the incursion into Latvia is not ruled out, but there is no confirmation for it either.
On Friday, to ensure security and the operational capabilities of authorities to combat possible drones, Helsinki also introduced temporary aviation and maritime restrictions in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland.
