The former head of state shared this message along with photos from the New York prison where he is held after being captured by U.S. forces.

N. Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were detained in Caracas during a U.S. military operation in January. They are currently imprisoned in Brooklyn prison, New York, on charges of drug trafficking and illegal possession of weapons; the couple denies these charges.
“I send these photos as a small gift to all my grandchildren, boys and girls, and to all the good people who love us,” he wrote on the messaging platform Telegram.
“I want you to know: we are holding on firmly, and our hearts are full of your love,” added N. Maduro.
In two photos, N. Maduro is wearing a gray tracksuit and showing peace signs with his hands. It is visible that he has lost a lot of weight since the day of his arrest.
Although the photos appeared on Sunday, the camera data shows they were taken on June 25, a day after two powerful earthquakes killed more than 6,500 people in northern Venezuela and caused widespread destruction.
“We will remain strong, calm, and confident: God is with us. God will provide. Venezuela will rise again,” he concluded.

This message was published two days after his successor, interim president Delcy Rodriguez, announced a “historic” oil agreement allowing the U.S. to exploit Venezuela’s oil fields.
D. Rodriguez governs under heavy pressure from Washington. She claims to have chosen the “path of diplomacy” with the U.S. because she wants Venezuela to become an “energy giant.”
In prison, N. Maduro does not have access to newspapers or the internet, but according to a source connected to the former leader, he is allowed to communicate by phone with family and lawyers for about 300 minutes per month, with calls not exceeding 15 minutes each.
His son Nicolas Maduro Guerra says his father feels well and spends time studying the Bible.
The New York federal court announced at the end of July that the trial of N. Maduro and his wife in the U.S. will begin on June 1, 2027.
