A reshuffle has taken place in the “Rytas-MRU” team, competing in the Regional Basketball League – Mindaugas Lukauskis takes the helm of the team, replacing Egidijus Ženevičius in this position. Last season, M. Lukauskis worked in G. Kadžiulis’ coaching staff for the “Rytas-2” team.
The coaching staff and medical personnel of the youth team were also joined by Vytautas Šulskis, who ended his professional career, coach Elvinas Račiūnas, physical training coach Dalius Pavliukovičius, and physiotherapist Deimantė Grincevičiūtė.
“We started preparing for the season last week,” said G. Kadžiulis, head coach of “Rytas-2”. “During the first week, we focused mainly on preparing the boys’ muscles for greater physical exertion, assessed the players’ condition after their summer holidays, and performed physical fitness tests. Unfortunately, not all of us could start preparations at the same time – the sixteen-year-olds rested for a week after the European Championship, so the training process became a bit more complicated, as the loads still have to be applied individually.

Pre-season work, as always, requires patience. We focus a lot on endurance, strength, lay the foundations for work on the basketball court, and systematically prepare defensive systems. Muscle soreness is currently a bit greater than usual during the season, but this is a natural part of preparation. In addition, five of our young players will be training with the main team starting this week – it’s great that they can contribute to the men’s team’s work and gain valuable experience.
There’s a lot of work, but we’re moving forward and preparing for the start of the season step by step.”
