According to LTOU representative Rūta Asadauskaitė, due to the suspended airport operations, planes flying to the capital from Antalya and Amsterdam were redirected to Kaunas, and they are now returning to Vilnius. Another aircraft took off from Warsaw but turned back.
“The plane from Warsaw plans to arrive, (…) it is just delayed,” R. Asadauskaitė told BNS.
The yellow air danger alert in part of Vilnius County lasted about 38 minutes in total – from 12:59 to 13:37. During that time, air traffic at Vilnius airport was suspended.
The National Crisis Management Center later reported that the danger was declared due to a flock of birds detected on radars, identified by NATO fighters that took off from Šiauliai.
