In Paris, from Saturday to Sunday, a police officer and LGBTIQ rights defender Pierre Picavet were injured in an attack.

P. Picavet is the president of the Paris-based association “FLAG!”, which unites employees of the French Ministries of the Interior and Justice and fights against discrimination against LGBTQ people.
According to the prosecutor’s office, after leaving a bar in the historic Marais district in central Paris, P. Picavet was struck with a bottle. The victim suffered multiple injuries, including internal bleeding and a head wound.
The association “STOP Homophobie” condemned this, what they called, “homophobic attack” and shared photos of P. Picavet’s injuries.
“STOP Homophobie” strongly condemns this attack and emphasizes that violence against LGBT+ people remains a reality,” the group said in a statement.
Prosecutors, based on P. Picavet’s testimony, stated that the attacker repeatedly insulted him with homophobic slurs.

“He immediately identified himself as a police officer and showed his service ID, but this did not stop the suspect from violence,” prosecutors added.
The suspect was detained. According to prosecutors, he had no prior convictions and was intoxicated during the attack.
Paris Deputy Mayor Emmanuel Gregoire condemned what he called “this vile homophobic attack.”
“We will never give up our streets to hatred,” E. Gregoire wrote on the social network X.
