This meeting was held according to the defense cooperation agreement signed earlier this month in Mecca. It commits the three countries to defend each other if any of them is attacked.

The pact was signed amid tensions over the war between the US and Iran and ongoing attacks by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in the region.
During the meeting in Istanbul, a “political and defense strategic committee” will be established. It will include foreign affairs and defense ministers as well as military chiefs, according to sources from the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The agreement unites NATO member Turkey, which has the second largest army in the alliance, the only nuclear state in the Islamic world Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia – the main power in the Persian Gulf region.
The Monday meeting will be chaired by Turkey’s foreign and defense ministers and the Chief of the General Staff.

Pakistan will send the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with the Defense Minister and the head of the armed forces.
Saudi Arabia will be represented by its Foreign Minister, Defense Minister, and Chief of the General Staff, Turkish sources said.
According to Ankara, participants will discuss international security issues. They also plan to address strengthening defense capabilities, interoperability of armed forces, and cooperation in the defense industry.
