Parliament Speaker Masud Gharahkhani read the official announcement of Harald V’s death and the transfer of the throne to Haakon VIII. Then the 53-year-old king took the oath.

“I promise and swear that I will govern the Kingdom of Norway according to its Constitution and laws, so help me God, Almighty and Omniscient,” said King Haakon VIII.
The new king adopted the motto “All for Norway,” originally devised by his great-great-grandfather.
