The latest stage of clashes, which began last week with US raids, is taking place amid a stalemate in their six-month-long war.

Iran maintains strategic control of the Strait of Hormuz, while Washington continues its blockade of Iranian ports.
Washington is also seeking to suppress Iran’s economy by imposing sanctions on entities with financial ties to the Shiite republic, attempting to force it to comply.
The ideological wing of Iran’s military forces – the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – reported on Sunday that it “attacked an American military unmanned surface vessel” attempting to enter the strait, according to a statement broadcast by state television.
Several hours earlier, the IRGC reported that its naval forces “targeted three oil tankers on an illegal route through the Strait of Hormuz and three ships belonging to America, which kills children, in other areas.”
It warned ships not to attempt to sail on unapproved routes.
On Saturday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM), overseeing US military operations in the region, reported striking tankers linked to the Iranian guard, accusing the most powerful branch of Iran’s military of unsuccessfully firing on American warships.

“After unsuccessful Iranian attacks, CENTCOM completely disabled IRGC oil tankers ‘M/T Downy’ off the coast of Chargo Island and ‘M/T Stark 1’ near Jask,” the statement on the social network “X” said.
“American forces also completely destroyed the unladen oil tanker ‘M/T Kylo’ (…) in the Gulf of Oman – after the crew was ordered to abandon the ship, several critical parts of the ship were struck to render it unusable,” the statement said.
The video released by CENTCOM shows huge fireballs and flames following projectiles hitting the ships.
The three ships that were struck were “part of a billion-dollar shadow network financing the IRGC and its proxies in the region,” the statement said.
