The latest negotiations come after the US renewed attacks against Iran to disrupt Tehran’s control of the strait. This followed a memorandum of understanding signed in June, which aimed to end the war and briefly reduced tensions.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeilis Baqaei stated that several rounds of negotiations between the Iranian and Omani deputy foreign ministers took place in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Friday and Saturday.
According to E. Baqaei, discussions focused on “common principles and operational mechanisms” to ensure safe passage for shipping through the strait, while respecting the sovereign rights of both states.
He described the negotiations as beneficial and indicated that progress had been made, adding that “technical and political consultations between the two sides continue.”
In June, Oman and Iran announced that they would discuss the introduction of service fees – a move Washington opposes.
However, Muscat also stated that ships could sail through the Strait of Hormuz through its waters, which angered Tehran, which responded with escalatory actions.

According to the news website “Axios”, the Pentagon presented US President Donald Trump with a plan for the 14th consecutive night of strikes, but he refused to approve it, preferring renewed negotiations.
