Iran’s Foreign Ministry stated that during the attack on Saturday morning, the ship “exploded, killing one sailor and injuring another,” the official news agency IRNA reported.
The Islamic Republic emphasized that it “never interfered in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.”
On Saturday, Zelensky stated on social media that the armed forces achieved “very strong results in long-range strikes in the Caspian Sea, including ships used for military cargo related to Iran, and a warship.”

In turn, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported on its “Telegram” channel that drone attacks were aimed at “cargo ships subject to international sanctions, which were used to transport military cargo between Iran and Russia.”
According to Iranian state television, the Foreign Ministry on Saturday summoned Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires in Tehran to protest this “hostile and criminal act.”
In addition, during a conversation with the European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called on the EU and the United Nations (UN) Security Council to “react strongly” to the attack, IRNA added.
