The editorial journalists became the strongest in the country for the third time, having previously triumphed in 2020 and 2023.
Throughout the history of the tournaments, only the team of the LŽS Sports Journalists Club “Press,” which organizes the competitions, has won more titles – 8.
It was precisely this team that 15min faced in this year’s tournament final. The regular match time ended goalless, and in the penalty shootout, 15min goalkeeper Darius Mataitis shone.
He saved two opponent shots and scored the decisive penalty himself and was later chosen as the best player of the tournament.
Both teams also competed in the Lithuanian championship final last year. Then in Panevėžys, “Press” won 2:0.
The bronze awards this year went to the Kaunas team.
“Press” together with the Lithuanian Sports Journalists Federation also organizes the Lithuanian Journalists Basketball Championship every year, which will be held for the thirteenth time at the end of the year.
From September 10-13, an international journalists’ football tournament will be held in Druskininkai. Since 2005, the competition held in Lithuania is the largest and longest-running uninterrupted journalists’ football tournament in the Old Continent and last year for the first time gained the status of the European Championship.
