In his assessment, the satellite communication station “Centaur-NM1” and the detection radar “Positiv-M1.2”, located on the upper deck closer to the stern of the ship, were also damaged.
The Ukrainian monitoring channel “Krymskyj veter” indicated that the attack hit the area of the vertical launch systems. This caused an internal detonation, after which the “UKSK 3S14” missile launch cells burned.
The frigate “Admiral Makarov” became the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet after the Ukrainian armed forces sank the cruiser “Moskva” with a missile strike on April 14, 2022.
Since the beginning of the war, the frigate has been used for attacks against Ukraine.
At the same time, the Ukrainian armed forces struck the frigate “Admiral Esen”. According to satellite images, the front part of the ship was most affected: the deck and the eight-cell “UKSK 3S14” launch system for “Kalibr” missiles.
The BIUS “Trebovanie-M” system was also put out of action, the antennas of the 3C-25E surveillance radar, the TK-25 electronic warfare complex antennas, and the “Centaur” satellite communication dome were destroyed.
“The ships have completely lost their striking potential and the ability to conduct combat operations. Both ships are out of service for at least a year,” summarized the “Krymskyj veter” channel.

The fact that the ships will require “long-term repairs in docks” was also acknowledged by the blogger “Vojenyj Osvedomitel”.
“This means that the Black Sea Fleet has lost two modern frigates indefinitely, capable of launching 16 cruise missiles simultaneously,” he concluded.
Immediately after the strike on August 12, when the Ukrainian military intelligence announced the destruction of the ships “Admiral Makarov” and “Admiral Esen”, Russian military bloggers began to raise the question, “where can the Black Sea Fleet escape now,” if the Ukrainian armed forces regularly strike Novorossiysk.
Representatives of the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) explained that Ukrainian drones, including jet drones “Palianycia”, “Neptune” missiles, and strike systems deployed on “marine platforms” were used to attack the frigates.
Novorossiysk became the deployment location of the Black Sea Fleet after Ukraine’s strikes forced Russia to move ships out of occupied Crimea.
The frigate “Admiral Makarov” was previously attacked on April 6, and the ship “Admiral Esen” was damaged on March 2.
