In Serbia, almost 30,000 pigs died or were slaughtered due to an outbreak of swine fever

African swine fever, which poses no threat to humans, is a viral hemorrhagic disease with a mortality rate of almost 100 percent among pigs and wild boars. Serbia, which currently has about 2.2 million pigs on its farms, regularly faces outbreaks of this virus.

Agriculture Minister Dragan Glamočičius informed a parliamentary committee on Tuesday that about 29,200 pigs had been slaughtered or died due to the virus during this latest outbreak.
