The Finnish National Prosecutor’s Office announced that a woman has been charged with two counts of aggravated human trafficking for alleged crimes committed between 2014 and 2024.

She denies the charges.
According to preliminary police investigation data, the woman in her forties, currently living in Finland, first took her children to Syria in 2014.
Later, the family was transferred to the Al Holo camp in northeastern Syria.
The children were forced to live in conditions where “their right to safe upbringing could not be guaranteed,” said Chief Detective Inspector Jan Aarnisalo last year after the investigation concluded.

By the end of 2021, the woman and one of the children returned to Finland. The other child returned later.
Both children are now adults, although their exact ages were not specified.
According to the Finnish Prosecutor’s Office, the charges have been forwarded to the Eastern Uusimaa District Court.
