As stated in the Ministry of Health press release, according to L. Kukuraitis, the changes will allow for more effective coordination of services and tests received by women during pregnancy and health services provided to newborns, strengthening the monitoring of service quality.

“One of the most important innovations is the introduction of a system of 52 quality indicators. This will allow monitoring the quality of healthcare services provided to pregnant women, women in labor, and newborns in all medical institutions across the country, objectively evaluating the services provided, identifying shortcomings, and correcting them,” says the Minister of Health.
The amendments to the order establish the right of the woman in labor to bring chosen accompanying persons into the delivery room. This standardizes practice requirements in all healthcare institutions in the country.
The legal act expands the list of pregnancy risk factors, as well as the list of risk factors for which a pregnant woman must be referred for consultation with tertiary-level specialists. More medical indications have been included, under which a neonatologist or pediatrician must participate in the delivery. The changes allow for more precise identification of pregnancies requiring higher-level care and ensure uniform risk assessment at all stages of pregnancy care.

The changes add new diagnostic methods to the care of pregnant women, clarify and establish additional care requirements for women in labor and postpartum women. The composition of the Perinatology Integrated Health Care Monitoring Committee is also updated, and a new quality monitoring system for the care of pregnant women, women in labor, and newborns is established.
These changes will help healthcare institutions ensure effective coordination and quality of perinatology services provided. Monitoring of these services, precisely defined quality indicators, lists of risk factors, and modernized requirements for tests and consultations will allow for prompt identification of problems and taking measures for their prevention and improvement of care quality. The changes will ensure compliance with patients’ rights and service accessibility, and staff qualification improvement will guarantee that services meet modern practice and international standards.
