Important changes in ESO self-service

“Cybersecurity requirements are constantly growing, so we are consistently strengthening the protection of customer accounts. Two-factor authentication is a widely used additional security measure that helps better protect customer accounts and the data contained therein from unauthorized access,” says Rasa Juodkienė, ESO’s public relations representative.

The two-factor authentication solution is being implemented in accordance with the provisions of the European Union’s NIS2 directive, which aims to strengthen the security of information systems of critical service providers.

The login process will not change, but an additional security confirmation will appear. When a customer logs into their account and enters their email address and password in the self-service portal, a one-time login code will be sent to the specified email address. After entering it in the ESO self-service portal, it will be possible to log in to the account. The code will be valid for 15 minutes.

R. Juodkienė notes that the change is relevant for customers who use an email address to log in to the ESO self-service portal, but business customers should pay special attention if several employees log in to one company’s self-service account.

From June 17, only those individuals who have access to the email address assigned to the account and can receive a one-time login code will be able to log in to the ESO self-service account.

“In practice, there are cases when a company’s self-service account is registered with one person’s email address, for example, a manager’s, but several employees – accountants, administrators – log in to it. We are informing about the changes in advance so that customers can ensure that all necessary individuals have access to one-time login codes,” says R. Juodkienė.

ESO recommends that customers ensure in advance that the email address associated with the account is active, and if multiple users are logging in, that it is accessible to all of them so they can receive and enter the authentication code.

ESO reminds that additional self-service rights can also be granted to other users by creating separate accesses for them. Instructions on how to add an additional user to the self-service portal can be found on the ESO website.

If a customer logs into the ESO self-service account with an outdated or currently unused email address, the email address should be changed to a current and active one. Instructions on how to do this can also be found on the ESO website. To ensure a smooth login, it is recommended to do this before June 17.
