A British holidaymaker was told he could be paralyzed from the neck down after suffering a serious injury while diving into a pool, reports the Mirror.
The accident happened last Thursday – on the last evening of the man’s holiday in Turkey with his girlfriend Becky Francey.
After the accident, he underwent a risky 13-hour emergency surgery; he is currently still being treated in the intensive care unit, and doctors say he will remain paralyzed from the neck down – as stated on the GoFundMe platform in the fundraising campaign started by Will and Becky’s families.
Will’s family, who are with him in Antalya, are making every effort to bring him home to England, but note that transportation with medical care could cost around £120,000. They also state that while Will is treated in the intensive care unit in Turkey, daily expenses amount to about £2,000.
The family says they do not have adequate insurance to cover all costs, and they may also have to pay large bills for special equipment and home adaptations. According to the fundraising campaign organizers, Becky “has devoted all her time to communicating with hospitals and insurance companies” in England.

“We have to bring him home – he will need special care. The road to recovery will be long,” 27-year-old Becky told the BBC. Describing the incident, she said: “I was standing to the side when he jumped into the water, but he didn’t surface for a while, and when he finally appeared, he was just floating face down.” When she jumped into the water and pulled him out of the pool, “he immediately said: ‘I can’t move’,” she added.
Will’s mother Julia Savege described her son as a very bright personality – “mischievous and full of joy.” She said: “They are a very happy couple, and we, as a family, are very close. We have been lucky to receive wonderful support: people are organizing music nights, quizzes, and other fundraising events. I, his father, and Rebecca are here in Turkey with him and are confident that he is in safe hands. We are eagerly awaiting his return home – to the rest of the family and a large circle of friends who miss him very much.”
At the time of this information, the fundraising campaign had raised more than £92,000 – which is over 60% of the planned £150,000 target.
