In the 6th championship held in Poland, the team coached by Paulius Matulis experienced one defeat (against the same Czech team) and won five victories. Improving their game in each match, the Lithuanians defeated Czech players Anna Pavlovova and Oldriška Židková 2:0 in the decisive battle.

“I am glad that the volleyball players showed their best game in the final,” said P. Matulis. “The courts are good, the sand is sticky, the infrastructure is excellent. During the championship, we experienced a real summer. On the days of the semifinal and final, the heat was 35 degrees. The players had to fight not only against their opponents but also against the heat. The team medic Marius Bražulis had excellent means to combat the heat. It is worth noting that for D. Keraitė, this was the first championship after surgery. The volleyball player returned to the court recently – in June.”
The championship will be memorable for the team veteran B. Aleknavičiūtė, recognized as the best player of this championship.
She last won a medal (silver) at the European Championship in Greece with Sigita Lukošiutė almost 20 years ago – in 2007.
And the champion title was last won by the Kaunas native with Ingrida Milkintaitė 10 years ago – at the World Championship held in Turkey in 2016.
The city of Sulejów is happy for the Lithuanian volleyball players. B. Aleknavičiūtė and I. Milkintaitė became prize winners of the World Championship in this corner of Poland in 2021.
And the cherry on top of this historic statistic is the fact that for B. Aleknavičiūtė, this is the jubilee – tenth – medal won during an active sports career at the highest level international competitions.
And D. Keraitė started her sports path with impressive victories. Last year, at the Deaflympics, she won the runner-up title with B. Aleknavičiūtė, and this time – the gold of the European Championship.
