Our country’s athlete demonstrated it once again last weekend in Palanga, when he won the Lithuanian athletics champion title by a large margin, throwing the discus 72 m 65 cm with his best attempt, and beating other strong discus throwers: Andrius Gudžius and his brother Martynas Alekna by almost nine meters.
Mykolas Alekna’s longest throw is impressive, but his series of throws is even more remarkable.
Now the athletics results analysis platform “Velocitra” has also taken notice of it.
The athletics statistics analysts highlighted the Lithuanian discus thrower’s series of valid throws: the discus flew 71 m 98 cm on the first throw, the second was invalid, the third was the longest – 72 m 65 cm, the fourth – 70 m 46 cm, the fifth – 69 m 87 cm, the sixth – 71 m 54 cm.

The average of Mykolas Alekna’s four throws was 71 m 66 cm.
And according to “Velocitra,” this is the best result in the past ten years.
Until now, the best series of four valid throws was considered to be Kristjan Čeh’s, performed in 2023 during a competition in Estonia, where the Slovenian’s average throw was 70 m 92 cm.
M. Alekna’s best series before that was 70 m 70 cm, achieved last year in Palanga.
The fourth best result belongs to the Swedish world champion Daniel Ståhl, who recorded his record series (70 m 60 cm) back in 2019.
All the mentioned discus throws are currently preparing for the European Championship, which will take place from August 10-16 in Birmingham (England).
