Founder of the popular "Cockroaches" party in India plans a protest

The party “Cockroach Janta Party” (CJP), whose name resembles Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Hindu nationalist party “Bharatiya Janata” (BJP), has gained millions of followers on social media since its founding last month.

It was founded after Chief Justice Surya Kantas allegedly called young people criticizing the government “cockroaches” and “parasites” during a session.

Later, S. Kantas said his comments were taken out of context and that he meant those who use fake diplomas.

30-year-old Boston University graduate Abhijeet Dipke, standing behind this online movement, announced on the social network “X” that he will return to India and lead a “peaceful protest” on Saturday.

He called for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who has faced criticism over alleged violations during several important exams.

“Students committed suicide, and the hard work of tens of thousands of students was destroyed,” A. Dipke said in a video message posted online.

CJP, which calls itself “a political youth front created by youth and for youth,” has had its social media accounts in India blocked multiple times.

Its Instagram account has more than 22 million followers – nearly twice as many as BJP’s 9.5 million followers on the same site, also surpassing the main opposition Congress party, which has 13.9 million followers.

A. Dipke urged followers to meet him at New Delhi airport and then together request police permission for the demonstration.

“My friends and family fear that I will be detained right at the airport and then sent to jail,” he said.

“However, I still hope that our country is still democratic today and that we will be granted permission to protest peacefully,” the man asserted.

Critics have repeatedly accused N. Modi’s government of using state institutions to suppress dissenters, but it denies these allegations.
