For M. Berrettini, this victory is undoubtedly a sweet revenge against the opponent for sensationally eliminating his compatriot Jannik Sinner (ATP-2) from the tournament, whom the Argentine defeated in a five-set match in the second round.
In recent seasons, the Italian, plagued by constant injuries, came to Paris for the first time since 2021, when he lost to Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals.
The last time Matteo competed in the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament was in the 2022 season – at the US Open in New York.
In the same year, he also reached the semifinals of the Australian Open, and in 2021 he played in the Wimbledon final, but further progress was completely disrupted by injuries.
In the quarterfinals, M. Berrettini will face either American Frances Tiafoe (ATP-22) or compatriot Matteo Arnaldi (ATP-104).
