He will participate with the organization’s team from 40 Lithuanian municipalities, and together with the institutions of Utena district municipality, the readiness to provide assistance to people during unexpected emergency situations will be practically tested.

“The public often thinks that an emergency situation is necessarily related to military actions. Definitely not. Our team has already responded several times to situations when people urgently needed help after fires, evacuations from unsafe apartment buildings, flooding of settlements, or the onset of a pandemic when some people could not take care of food. Therefore, we must constantly train and check how we can act in various circumstances,” said Simonas Gurevičius, head of the “Food Bank.”
According to him, this year’s exercises are special because they pay a lot of attention to cooperation with the municipality and local institutions.
“We are very pleased with the smooth partnership with Utena district municipality. We hope that such situations will never be needed, but if greater assistance to residents is required in the district, we will know that together we are ready to act quickly and in a coordinated manner,” said S. Gurevičius.
During the exercises, theoretical training will be organized, practical preparation and distribution of food packages, hot food cooking, and testing of the readiness of the Utena Dauniškis Gymnasium kitchen, fire extinguishing training, and various unexpected situations not disclosed to participants in advance.
In total, it is planned that more than half a thousand participants will take part in the exercises – over one hundred “Food Bank” team members and observers and about 500 residents of Utena district, for whom food packages will be formed and handed over.
Some residents of Utena district have already received short SMS messages in advance inviting them to come on Tuesday to collect a food package.

According to the “Food Bank,” invitations were sent to people already known to the organization as recipients of support, who were invited to participate in the exercises as participants.
It is necessary to arrive at the specified time and have a valid identity document. Without presenting it, the food package will not be issued.
The majority of activities will take place in the area around the Utena Cultural Center. Exercises will also be organized at Utena Dauniškis Gymnasium and in the Utena Cultural Center itself.
Residents may notice increased traffic, more emergency services, and other institution employees on Tuesday. Fire and rescue service officers will participate in the exercises, and police and other institution representatives will be more frequently on duty in the area.
Various unexpected situations will be simulated during the exercises, so the organizers ask residents not to be alarmed if they hear sound announcements, see increased human activity, or other unusual actions – this will only be part of the exercise scenario.
