Messages from concerned residents to the news portal “Kas vyksta Kaune” started pouring in from 10:58 AM. Residents wrote that a loud sound was heard in the Gričiupis, Vilijampolė neighborhoods, the city center, and surrounding areas. “Hello, just now several fighter jets flew over Vilijampolė. Could you find out why?” – a reader wrote to the portal at 10:58 AM.
“What is happening in Kaunas with some kind of plane? Is it a fighter jet? The sound was terrible,” wrote another Kaunas resident. Another Kaunas resident speculated that possibly two “Rafale” fighter jets flew over Kaunas.
As representatives of the Lithuanian Armed Forces told the news portal “Kas vyksta Kaune,” a training flight of NATO air policing fighter jets took place over the city of Kaunas according to a pre-approved flight plan.

“Currently, Italian fighter jets are conducting routine training in Lithuanian airspace,” assured the Lithuanian Armed Forces.
