The American who moved from “Valencia” to Turkey has already warmed up in the Euroleague. Last season, he averaged 6.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
Such statistics caught Š. Jasikevičius’s attention.
Although Šaras is known for strictness, according to B. Key, he personally has not yet been scolded.
“So far everything is going really well. He hasn’t scolded me yet, so if you asked me this question again in a week or two, my opinion might change,” the basketball player told the “Fenerbahçe” portal.
The 29-year-old forward compared Š. Jasikevičius to Pedro Martinez. B. Key emphasized that both coaches pay great attention to details.
“What surprises me the most is how Šaras notices the small things,” B. Key revealed. “He doesn’t focus only on the accurate shot – he sees the screen that creates space for that shot, or the pass that helps to take a position. Sometimes he even emphasizes the third pass that prepares the shot. I really like how strongly he concentrates on such details.”
During the conversation, he also spoke about his role in the team. According to B. Key, Š. Jasikevičius expects him to work actively on defense and make quick decisions.
The American also highlighted one important element of Šaras’s promoted basketball.
“He doesn’t want players to be tied to one position – he expects everyone to adapt to basketball without position boundaries. Sometimes a big man can dribble the ball to the other side of the court, sometimes a point guard can set a screen,” B. Key emphasized.
“This kind of offensive flexibility reminds me of the most successful periods of ‘Golden State,’ when the team played basketball without position boundaries. I think this system will create many new opportunities and allow players to better reveal their offensive skills.”
