A message from the relatives of sculptor D. Sodeika about a tragic event is rapidly spreading on Facebook. According to them, the artist’s workshop in Jadagoniai village completely burned down. The fire destroyed not only the building itself, but also important equipment, sketches, unfinished orders, and already created sculptures.
The family, devastated by the disaster, is asking for public help. Contributions can be made financially, and the artist also needs materials and tools to continue his work.
“30 YEARS OF LIFE’S WORK LOST IN ONE NIGHT
On the night of July 22-23, a disaster occurred in Jadagoniai village – the workshop of my relative, sculptor Danielius Sodeika, completely burned down.
The fire completely destroyed the building. In a few moments, the flames consumed everything – three decades’ worth of professional stone, metal, and wood processing equipment, molds, sketches, unfinished orders, and already created sculptures. Danielius lost everything essential for his creative and daily work – from machines to the smallest chisels and hammers.
The losses amount to more than 100 thousand euros, and only ashes remain of the sculptor’s workshop. However, his talent and desire to create did not burn down. We sincerely invite everyone who can to contribute to the restoration of the workshop.
