Famous Hollywood actor brutally murdered in his own backyard: suspect is his beloved's son

The police report states: “On Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at approximately 9:30 a.m., West Valley Division patrol officers responded to a call regarding an unknown situation in the 19200 block of Erwin Street. The 911 caller stated: “I am the man’s son, I just killed the man of sin.” Upon arrival, officers found 81-year-old James Handy unconscious in the front yard of the house, suffering from a stab wound to the chest. The victim was rushed to the hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, but was later pronounced dead. Officers arriving at the scene were met by the suspect, who admitted to being the person they were looking for. The suspect lived in the same residence with his mother, who was the actor’s girlfriend.”

According to officials, this is considered an isolated incident and there is currently no danger to the public.

44-year-old suspect Michael Gledhill was arrested and booked into Van Nuys Jail. He has been charged with murder, with bail set at $2 million.

The actor’s representative confirmed the news: “It is with great sadness that I can confirm that the man who was assaulted and killed in the Tarzana area on Wednesday was actor James Handy.”

In addition to his role in the 2022 film “Top Gun: Maverick,” Handy played a doctor who treated Hugh Jackman’s character in the 2017 film “Logan.” In the 1995 film “Jumanji,” he played a hunter, and in “Arachnophobia,” he played the character of Milton Briggs. He also appeared in “The Rocketeer,” “Brighton Beach Memoirs,” “The Verdict,” and “K-9.”

On television, he created the role of Arthur Devlin in eight episodes of the series “Alias,” and also had recurring roles in “Melrose Place” and “NYPD Blue.”
